Important government changes have left many motorists confused about whether their vehicle can be refuelled with the new E10 Unleaded Petrol.
As part of the UK government’s commitment to environmentally greener driving, a new octane of unleaded petrol was introduced recently E10. E10 represents the percentage of ethanol-petrol in the mix; with 10% percent being bio-based ethanol and 90% unleaded petrol.

What is E10 Unleaded?
Up until recently, unleaded petrol was using a 5% mix of ethanol (with super unleaded offering just a 2% mix. This means that for those vehicles unable to run the new E10 variant, drivers can always fill up on Super Unleaded without fear of affected their engine.

Can my car use E10 Unleaded?
The UK government has setup a website to help users establish whether they can safely use E10 unleaded petrol. This website can be found here and we urge our customers, friends and family to check the status of their vehicle if made before 2011.
For Citroen and DS Automobiles, all models manufactured after January 1st 2000 are compatible with E10 unleaded fuel. You can use this fuel safely in your car if it was manufactured after this date. If your Citroen or DS was manufactured before this date then please start using Super Unleaded as an alternative.
Many other manufacturers are not as forward thinking as Citroen so if you drive another model, please do not hesitate to check your vehicle’s compatibility using their checker.

Is it time to consider an upgrade?
Since the UK government has confirmed that the sale of new combustion-engine vehicles will cease in 2030, it is certainly time to consider an alternative. Charters Citroen Aldershot already sell the popular e-C4: an all-electric family hatchback with a great range and fast charging.
For those of us not quite ready for the switchover to pure electric motoring Citroen offers a full range of highly economical vehicles on sale for urban city driving to long family journeys.

Is there any point in buying a petrol or diesel car in 2021?
Whilst the UK’s commitment to electric car manufacturing is commendable, many electric cars on sale today do not match up to their combustion equivalents. Range anxiety is still a very real thing for drivers making longer journeys. For over 100 years, Citroen has developed and honed their petrol vehicles to be the most economical and efficient cars on the roads. Whilst the early adopters will enjoy modern technology and greener driving, many of us can order an extremely fine-tuned PureTech petrol engine, safe in the knowledge that when we finally do switch to all-electric, the infrastructure range will be available to us.
To discover the Citroen range for yourself, view our new car section. Each model fulfils a specific use-case and are fitted with the latest safety features and high specification.
For the bold forward thinkers of us, drive the all-electric e-C4 from Charters Citroen Aldershot
