Last week, the Charters Group were proud to celebrate the community’s local heroes with Eagle Radio. With categories from the teaching award, to the Military & Emergency Services, the Local Heroes Awards go to our very best candidates which have been nominated by members of the public.
This year, Charters Group were incredibly proud to sponsor the Young Person Award which was won by Blair Fiander – an absolute star in the making.
After learning about how some cultures are not educated as we are with regards to the importance of bank accounts, she set out to raise awareness of this issue.
Blair Fiander made a music video to support the Child and Youth Finance International’s Dreamsbank campaign – hoping to encourage leaders around the world to focus on financial education in their societies. She did this so all children understand the importance of opening a bank account. Blair promoted the campaign after learning that opening a bank account is not as easy for women or children in other societies.
She was even invited to the United Nations to address 500 ambassadors and representatives at the age of 12 – what were you doing at this age?
Derek McQueen (Managing Director of Charters Group) proudly awarded Blair with her (well deserved) award for her contribution to our society.
Speaking of the event, he said ” It has been a great night and personally I was so proud of all the very worthy winners that we have locally. We will be supporting this worthwhile event again in 2016“.
Recognising our local heroes who go out of their way for others is just another thing we cheerfully do. We would like to wish Blair congratulations once again on her win and wish her all of the best in the future.
